MacRitchie and Mount Pleasant Guide for Thomson Eight

West of Thomson Eight, two very different places shape the area: MacRitchie Reservoir Park, a gateway to the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, and Mount Pleasant, where a new HDB estate is taking shape.

MacRitchie Reservoir Park and Thomson Eight

MacRitchie Reservoir Park lies roughly 1.5 kilometres west of Thomson Eight as the crow flies, a short drive along Thomson Road. Its trails, boardwalks and running routes lead into the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, the largest nature reserve in Singapore.

For residents of Thomson Eight, the reservoir park brings the Central Catchment within easy reach: an early run on the trails, a weekend walk along the water, or an afternoon on the boardwalks under the forest canopy.

The New Mount Pleasant Estate Beside Thomson Eight

On 2 September 2025 HDB announced that the former Police Academy site at Mount Pleasant, 33 hectares bounded by Thomson Road and the Pan-Island Expressway, will hold about 6,000 flats in four Build-To-Order projects, more than the 5,000 first planned. Six conserved buildings that HDB describes as the most significant representations of police heritage will be kept, and the former parade square will become a public space.

The first project, Mount Pleasant Crest, was offered in the October 2025 BTO exercise. As the estate fills, Mount Pleasant MRT station on the Thomson-East Coast Line, about 0.7 kilometres from Thomson Eight, is set to open with it.

What This Means Around Thomson Eight

Each project is delivered by its own agency on its own programme. Together they shape the Thomson Road corridor around Thomson Eight: green space a short drive away on one side, and new homes and a new station taking shape on the other.

The amenities page and the MRT stations guide cover the rest of the neighbourhood.
