Toa Payoh and Balestier Guide for Thomson Eight

To the north of Thomson Eight lies the Toa Payoh town centre; to the south-east, the shophouse streets of Balestier. Between them they cover most everyday needs.

The Toa Payoh Town Centre Near Thomson Eight

The HDB Hub at Lorong 6 Toa Payoh is about 0.7 to 0.9 kilometres from the site, depending on the block measured. Around it are the station, the bus interchange, a long run of shops and food outlets, and the markets and food centres of one of Singapore’s oldest HDB towns.

Toa Payoh is on the cusp of a major addition. The Toa Payoh Integrated Development, announced by Sport Singapore with the National Library Board, NHG Polyclinics, the Ministry of Health and NParks, will bring a 10,000-seat stadium, an aquatic centre with four indoor pools, sports halls, an ActiveSG gym, a larger library and a redeveloped polyclinic to one site, with the town park rejuvenated and its Lookout Tower kept. Completion is expected by 2030.

Balestier Road, South-East of Thomson Eight

Balestier, south-east of the site, is a conserved stretch of shophouses known for its food stalls and bakeries and for its lighting and hardware trades. Balestier Plaza is about 1.2 kilometres from the site, and the Zhongshan Park development, with its hotels and offices, about 0.7 kilometres.

Thomson Eight Between Two Neighbourhoods
