The Thomson Eight Ridge and Its Long Past

Few home sites in Singapore have as varied a history as the land beneath Thomson Eight. The story of 8 Thomson Lane, once 418 Thomson Road, begins with a grand bungalow built on the ridge in the early 1940s, overlooking Thomson Road from its raised grounds.

The hotel years shaped the land’s planning for decades, until residential zoning at a gross plot ratio of 3.5 set it on its new course.

The Thomson Eight Land as One Estate

Through each of these chapters, the land remained a single private estate under one ownership, and its raised grounds and mature trees were never divided into smaller plots. That long single holding is why a site of 203,073 square feet exists in a district of established homes.

It also explains the green character of the setting today, with the tall residential towers of Sky@eleven next door and landed homes and established condominiums on the surrounding streets.

The Next Chapter: Thomson Eight

Approximately 776 residences are now planned on the site, on a 105-year leasehold, in a development led by Sustained Land. The land that once held a house, a hotel, a club and a school becomes a residential address once more, on a far larger scale.
